DECEMBER 19, 2017
Welcome back, Greenies.
With Early Signing Day debuting for College Football on Dec. 20, this will be our main thread -- a running tracker of Tulane recruiting updates.
One interesting thing is how some schools are not doing a whole lot today while other classes are nearly complete:
AAC programs are taking very different approaches to Early Signing.— Fear the Wave (@FearTheWaveBlog) December 20, 2017
Signees announced, as of 11 AM:
1. Temple 24
2. Tulane 22
3. Houston 20
4. Cincy 19
5. UConn 19
6. ECU 19
7. Tulsa 14
8. USF 13
9. UCF 10
10. SMU 3
11. Memphis 2
*Navy doesn't use this process
Memphis is a bit weird, considering Coach Norvell is staying on, and they had around 16 commits entering today. Guess we'll see if it pays off in the end.
The Fritz staff has rolled today with 21 of 23 commits signed already. That leaves Preston Ellison (Permian, TX) and Ryan Wright from California.
Of note, Jeffery Johnson made it official as planned:
We knew DT was a position of need with team turnover, and I'm really excited about these three (who have all signed). Johnson, in particular, looks to emerge as a four-year starter.
At a high level, this class is well on its way to being the best ever signed to Tulane in the recruiting rankings era. I don't know of any other surprises for today, so we'll keep an eye out.
Mentioned earlier that I thought this was potentially our best flip opportunity. Travon King (Woodrow Wilson, NJ) announces he will not sign with Rutgers today as planned:
King has decided to take more time after a visit to Tulane, though the article above mentions that Temple has made a strong push as well (and potentially Baylor, where former Temple coach Matt Rhule knows the territory).
The big board is looking green.
16 of 23 announced commits have signed already. That includes every prospect from the state of Louisiana so far.
We are only 30 minutes into #Fritzmas but 13 of now 23 commits have been signed.
Here's the tracker.
So far, our only surprise has been Ygenio Booker from Florida being added to the class, as he had not previously announced a commitment. He's a 5'9" back known for serious speed, so he will add a different element to the Wave's backfield.
My floor for today for that we would finish with 23 (plus our grad transfer), and I think our ceiling is 25. Let's see how that works out.
(Right click to make the sheet larger)
Tulane's class is at 22 commits with a grad transfer from Vandy for 23 scholarships.
Tomorrow's the big one. On to the main event, Greenies.
Not a shocker here since he's been a hard commit, but expect Julon Williams to sign with Houston tomorrow:
On the QB board, Tulane will sign NC's Christian Daniels for this class.
They will almost certainly have a scholarship available while they wait on JUCO QB Lindsey Scott's decision. For that one, JUCOs are not limited to this signing period. Scott may wait out Mizzou's bowl game if needed to see if their starter declares for the NFL.
In our post below, we had Jeffery Johnson, Jorien Vallien, Jamiran James, Juan Monjarres, and Christian Daniels as planned signees tomorrow.
Found a couple more to add to the list.
3-star Donaldsonville DT Davon Wright will be signing at his school's ceremony:
Also, out in California, top 5 ranked punter Ryan Wright will put it in writing tomorrow:

Just in, 3-star OL Jason Swann announces he will sign tomorrow as well out of Florida powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas:
Last weekend, Tulane got Rutgers' commit DE / LB Travon King on campus. King hails from Woodrow Wilson in Camden, NJ.

His coach, notably, is Preston Brown, who had 45+ reception seasons for the Green Wave in 2005 and 2006.
I wouldn't advise putting a ton of faith in this, but I did notice that one of the 247 Recruiting Analysts from a Big 10 site predicted yesterday King would flip from Rutgers to the Green Wave. Keeping an eye on that.
Terrific player who has big upside at the college level, especially since he's relatively new to the game.
Commit #22 has joined the class with Permian, TX DB Preston Ellison announcing his commitment:
He doesn't have a consensus rating yet but 247 checks him in at 3-stars.
And now, Coach Fritz has RW'd it:
LSU transfer turned EMCC JUCO QB Lindsey Scott picked up an offer from Missouri today:
The former Louisiana Player of the Year has been a big target for the Wave with Coach Fritz attending his national championship game (as well as Western Michigan recruiting him hard as of late).
While Kansas had offered before, Mizzou would be a chance to return to the SEC so we'll see what happens. For what it's worth, they have a returning senior QB in Drew Lock who broke the single season SEC record in TD passes this year with 41 -- though he's eligible and debating whether to declare for the draft.
Will be interesting to see how that plays out. A Missouri recruiting writer notes that Drew Lock might not be gone, which means the Tigers could have a relatively full QB depth chart to offer:
Before you all go jumping to conclusions, the offer to Lindsey Scott Jr. has nothing to do with knowing Drew Lock is gone next year. Not the case. #Mizzou needs a QB in this class whether Lock stays or goes.— Gabe DeArmond (@GabeDeArmond) December 19, 2017
Also on Tulane's board is a dynamic high school prospect from Texas: Julon Williams. He has been a hard commit to Houston for a while, but the Fritz staff was able to get him on campus last week. His OVs were with the Coogs and Green Wave.
Let's start the list with 3-star QB Christian Daniels from North Carolina. After committing to Miami (OH), the dual threat QB flipped to Tulane this fall.

Next up, WR Jorien Vallien out of Alexandria, LA boasted an impressive offer list with Vandy, Mississippi State, and Texas Tech in the mix, but the Louisiana wideout chose to roll with the Wave.
St. Aug DB / LB Juan Monjarres has been a long-time Tulane commit as well as one of the highest rated prospects in this class. He announced he will sign tomorrow.
I’ll be signing December 20th— Juan Monjarres (@_lahtito_) December 15, 2017
Also in-state, De La Salle announced that long-time Tulane commit DT Jamiran James will sign tomorrow as well.
Tomorrow will be the first-ever early signing period for football. Three De La Salle seniors are set to commit at tomorrow's signing. #delasalle #leadon #5300 #Tulane #Nicholls #KansasState https://t.co/uoZm6QK5lc— De La Salle (@DLSnola) December 19, 2017
Finally, ESPN 4-star (high consensus 3 star) DT Jeffery Johnson from Mississippi also reportedly will sign tomorrow, via the Clarion Legder.
Tulane's recruiting class goes back to 21 high school commits and our OL trasfer from Vandy after Texas RB Simi Bakare announced he was decommitting:

Class goes back to 21 commits + Vandy transfer if you're counting. https://t.co/YDtXR0maN6
Not long after, Bakare officially flipped to Missouri. Tulane has two RBs in this class -- Amare Jones from Texas and Cameron Carroll from the Sip.
